Benefit Love

ip5 1386Amazing what switching from threading to waxing can lead to.

For a year now, I’ve been getting my eyebrows threaded. I went to 3 different places and usually, only 1 lady got it right and it was in one of those middle of the mall kiosk things. I didn’t mind it, but I always felt weird when people walking past would just stop and look. Like, um, a little privacy/space please. Which, of course, not happening when you’re getting it done in the middle of the mall.

So anyway, I decided to go to our local Ulta and just walk around. Lo and behold, we have a Benefit Brow Bar. I figured I’d give it a shot. I loved it and I love the girl who did my eyebrows (and upperlip…shh…who said that???). She was so friendly and knew all about my pains of having oily skin (which has nothing to do with waxing, but I was probably just paranoid thinking my oily skin was gushing out as she was waxing..close proximity makes me babble even moreso).

She offered to put concealer on after my waxing to hide the redness and of course, I was curious and had her make sure it matched me correctly. She swore by it and so of course, I bit the bait and got it. The concealer is called Boing by Benefit. I don’t use it all the time and really, I’m still getting used to a concealer. I never really wore one before even though everyone and their mothers knew I needed to. It might give off a bit more of a yellowish tone that I”m used to b/c when I went to wear my usual lippie, the color was off. Maybe I need to just go a smidge lighter. She pretty much matched my color instead of going lighter, but I am new to concealer so maybe that age old “go a shade lighter” doesn’t apply anymore? I guess next time I go, I will ask to try the lighter shade and see. Ulta is one of the stores where you can return a used product so long as it’s not almost all used up.

Anywho, I decided to walk around some more and discovered Benefit’s Fine One One. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE! It’s a highlighter, blush and it just gives a nice warm glow and it’s buildable. Go as sheer or as bold as you want! Added bonus? You can use it on your lips too. It comes off a bit pale on me, but its good for that pale/neutral look that goes well with the smokey eye. It is creamy so I’m a bit apprehensive about using it bc of my oily skin though it seems to be ok so far. I know I’ll be wearing more of this during this spring/summer for the color (again, I hope it’s not too oily in the heat). I’m already trying not to use it too much now b/c it is still winter.

My most favorite Benefit product came 2 weeks later when I had to get my eyebrows done again. This time? Mascara. I needed a new one b/c mine are over 6 months old and that’s no bueno. Now, I’m a WAHM so I don’t need to really be buying makeup all the time, I know this…shhh…But, this mascara had me intrigued and it helped that my eyebrow girl (and 2 others working that night) kept raving about it. It’s called They’re Real Mascara. It really does build volume and lengthens all in one! The brush is designed so you can use it horizontally and vertically (that’s why the tip is curved…that’s what you use to separate and curl). That’s the only pic of me looking up where you can see my lashes in that angle and it was a rush day of applying the mascara (I didn’t wiggle it on right) so sorry if it doesn’t look great, but believe me, it really gives your lashes UUMPH AND it is waterproof AND sweatproof (already tested that out during a Pilates Reformer class and while on the elliptical for an hour)! Being that it is sweatproof and I’m trying to go to the gym more often, yes, this WAHM actually wears mascara to the gym now. lol Might as well make the most of it!

Speaking of mascara…Here are tips from Allure… wiggle-wiggle-wiggle-wiggle-wiggle-yeah!

7

Happens to be my favorite number (typical, I know…but hey, we even got married on 07.07.07) and also the number of days in a row that I have been to the gym.

Days 1-3 (Weds-Fri) last week, I went during lunch and had my girls in child care. I did elliptical work, mainly, and a little bit of weights.

Day 4 (Saturday) was family gym day – basketball fun and weights.

Day 5 (Sunday) was a demo for Pilates Reformer. 30 minutes of it and I was sore from that and Saturday’s weights.

Day 6 (Monday) was a full hour of the Pilates Reformer class.

Day 7 (yesterday, Tuesday) was an hour of Aqua Dance.

To say I’m sore is a bit of an understatement. Sad part is, I usually don’t feel full on soreness until 2 days after. So tomorrow, we’ll see if I can even get out of bed. But you know what? It’s a fantabulous SORE. I love it. I can even kind of suck in my belly now! Yes, that’s a HUGE deal.

Been using my Garmin Forerunner 110 to see how comparable the numbers are between it and the elliptical. It was pretty close when I forgot to change my weight down, but when I did, there was a noticeable difference between the 2. Still, I like to see the numbers. Didn’t realize I was such a numbers gal (just don’t ask me for any algebraic equations or calculus mumbo jumbo…it’s been WAY too long). It’s nice to use this bad boy even if I’m not using it for running outdoors and tracking my distance, etc.

Ultimate Reset was a total kickstart to my new lifestyle. Still eating healthy 90% of the time and now working out again. SUPER glad I did the reset. I can’t wait to see where I am in a month from now. I don’t know if I can keep going to the gym every single day, but I will go as much as I can because, why not?

Ultimate Reset – Finito!

Yes, yes, yes! I did it!

It’s been 2 1/2 weeks since I finished the Ultimate Reset and let me tell you, it’s one of the BEST things I’ve ever done for myself! I feel refreshed, renewed, invigorated, energetic and all of this with NO caffeine what-so-ever! I have learned so much about food and myself. I’ve learned that I can control my eating. I learned that I don’t need to constantly snack on junk food, etc. I learned about new food and how to cook new food and even how to cook other foods I knew of before. I like how I feel, I like how I look and I like that I know I can keep getting better with myself – inside and out.

Here I am Post Reset after I just got my blood drawn (I actually left the house, hence why I actually have a little bit of make-up on).

So, how did I do? After 21 days, I lost 11.7 (we’ll say 12) pounds…over 13 inches overall. All that with NO EXERCISE. Just clean eats and taking daily supplements!

THE BIGGEST and BEST NEWS? My cholesterol dropped 103 points!
Yes, that’s correct. 103 points. From 246 to 143. I was thinking I would only drop 20 or 30 points which would mean that I would still be on medication, but NOPE. 103 points = no medication for me!!!

2 1/2 weeks later and I’m still 90% eating clean – no caffeine, minimal alcohol (drinks when my girlfriends and I went to Chicago and I had to water down my 2nd drink), not too much sugar and still having healthy meals. I will have treats here and there, but for the most part? I’ve still been cooking healthy meals from the Reset Recipe book. In fact, my girlfriends came to visit last week and I would make my own separate meals. The only time I didn’t is when we went to Chicago for a day. My stomach paid for it b/c I was so umcomfy! lol Too many “new” things going into mah belly all at once (meats, etc.).

I finally got my bum back to the gym yesterday and did the elliptical. I will probably go back again today. I’m still debating on whether or not to start TurboFire again, but I think I like going to the gym…it gets me out of the house. Let’s not forget I’m a WAHM who also stays home with a 5 year old, 2 year old AND 1 year old pup.

Anyway, I’m excited to be working out again b/c my body (on the inside) is at its prime thanks to the Ultimate Reset. I still have a lot of work to do, but I’m definitely better off now than when I started.

Any questions, just let me know. I am willing to answer – to the best of my ability!

And let me leave you with this…My Ultimate Reset Food Gallery. My meals for the 21 days during the reset.

Ultimate Reset – Week 1 Review

So I mentioned that I started the Ultimate Reset to cleanse and detoxify my body. I’ve abused it enough – from years of smoking (I quit a while ago, but still), fast food, junk food, fatty foods, sweets, alcohol, caffeine, soda, etc…it was time to make a change. I always felt slow and tired and I needed to kick start my weightloss journey for the year, for life. So, I figured, I could start by detoxifying and starting out with the cleanest canvas possible.

Week 1 ended yesterday and I feel great! Now, not everyday was easy, but you know what was good? The FOOD! Here are some videos/testimonials from me. Just of what I’m feeling and such and…FOOD pics…mmmm…But with all this yummy food = prepping. I need to up my game on that because I feel like I’m in the kitchen almost all day which is not cool because I have my work laptop on the counter and such. I need to do better with looking ahead without getting overwhelmed. That way, I can see some are the same recipes as the night/days before and I can just cut up double the amount so I don’t have to cut again the next day.

Anywho…here goes my Week 1:

Week 1 Day 1 - The beginning of my journey. The food was great, the headaches from caffeine (and sugar?) withdrawal – not so much! Energy level was down, but that wasn’t anything new.

Week 1 Day 2 – Still had some headaches…always gets worse midday to evening. Still tired a bit and caught a nap when possible.
ip5 621

Week 1 Day 3 – Aches and pains started. My lower back was sore along with my things and bum…I guess the trunk area? Tired and achy and felt like I was coming down with the flu (like so many right now).
ip5 693

Week 1 Day 4 – Even MORE achy. It was hard to sleep the night before and this night. I was tired, but had a hard time taking a nap because no position helped relieve my aches – especially my lower back. I refrained from taking any pain relievers and envied my hubby, who was coming down w/a cold and fever, for being able to take some. Also, very cold! Our house is set to 72 and I was freezing! I even bumped it up to 73, but still cold and was with my snuggie.

COOOOOLD!

(Bottom pic is just veggies prior to veggie stir fry. I can’t believe I forgot to take a pic of the full dinner: stir fry veggies, quinoa, cucumber and tomato salad)!

Week1 Day 5 - Was starting to feel less achy, more energized (but I’ll still nap. I have kids who like to wake up in the middle of the night due to foot pains or leg pains or wanting milk or nightmares or what-have-you, so I will take naps whenever possible – sometimes tired or not…hehehe).

Week 1 Day 6 – Felt great with still some lower back soreness (I don’t know if that’s ever going to go away, especially with how I’ve been on my feet a lot in the kitchen prepping and such), but afternoon had me FREEZING again! I was bundled up with my hooded sweatshirt (hood on), a snuggie, gloves and fur lined shoes. It was 73 in the house.

Week 1 Day 7 – Last Day of Week 1! WOW! Already?!?! Down 5.5lbs :) Felt pretty good, lower back pain only after being on my feet a lot. No headaches (stopped around Day 4).

Today Begins Week 2 aka RELEASE week aka DETOX week. That also means I’m going to be taking some detox supplements along with my alkalanize (powders you dissolve in water). In addition, I begin vegetarian mode. Oh boy, wish me luck!

Whose Child Is This?

Shrimpie is still at it. Last week? She decided to TP our room and doorway leading into our room. I have nothing else to say, but whose child is this?!?!?
