Softball Season

Wow, softball season is amongst us and I haven’t posted since even before basketball season. Maybe I will do catchup posts at a later point in time? Hmmm…

Anywho, sitting here, at the softball field, I’m reminded that I love the beauty of spring, but detest allergies. Between the kids fun run at the track last night and now sitting here for a softball game, I’m already exhausted from sneezing and blowing my nose. My girls are lucky I love them. Hehe

The big 2 play for the same softball team this year and I love watching how they look out for each other – especially Beans. During practice, when they have to run laps, she runs alongside Razz (even though she runs faster) to make sure her asthmatic sister will be ok.

Shrimp loves to sleep in so she is home still sleeping and that is fine by me. Trying to keep her occupied during a game involves me running around after her to stop her from going to the playground. That little one man, she is something else! She’s lucky I love her too. Hehehe

2013 Super Bowl XLV11 – ehhh

Is it me or did the Super Bowl lacked a certain “umph” last night, no? It just seemed like another football game to me. No big electric filled feeling (or maybe there was and it took the electricity down with it). Even the commercials weren’t all that. We tuned in the middle of the 2nd quarter so maybe there were other commercials, but I don’t think we saw the resident Coca Cola Polar Bears or did we miss that? I know we missed the Budweiser Clydesdales, but usually they would have more than one commercial, right?

Best commercial IMHO? RAM’s “God Made a Farmer”. Maybe it’s because we have migrated to the heartland in the midwest and it resonates with me more now, but really, it was darn touching and respectful.

Go forth and share via FB, Twitter, what have you..clicks = donations from Ram’s YouTube Page:

To me, the highlights of the game, besides Beyonce, were the lights going out and that giving the 49ers some kind of momentum and run. Other than that, it was kind of boring to watch, like THIS is the Super Bowl??!?! One team totally dominating the other? I’m glad they actually came out fighting and gave the Ravens a run for their money.

Now I know there were great plays made and I am happy for Jersey boy, Flacco, but overall, it just lacked a certain “WOOOOOHOOO” factor. I’m not a sports editor or anything…I’m just sayin’.

PS – I noticed I actually write more about football than basketball when I’m a bigger basketball fan than football. Go figure.

So yeah, It’s August 3rd and I haven’t gone for a run at all. In fact, I haven’t gone for a run since JU-LY. In fact, the last time I ran was when I ran 20 minutes straight. In fact, I only ran all of 2.1 miles in July – that 20 minute run that was so elusive to me that I finally did that I never did again that makes it all a moot (point) run now, doesn’t it?

So, I guess I should slap one of these stickers on my car. I was never planning on running a 10k or 13.1 or 26.2. I was just going to stick to 5ks, but seriously, I should just stick 0.0 on there.

Between moving and a client going LIVE and taking care of 3 girls and a dog and the Olympics (HELLOOOOO Nathan Adrian! – pic on the left), blogging and running have both taken a backseat, but by golly, I need to get back on the groove. I’ve put all the weight back on that I lost and I feel horrible. I am always sluggish and tired and feel sloppy and slobby. I need to get back on it. No more excuses. I got new headphones since Buddy (our pup) chewed the old ones (ha! I wish I had a dog growing up so I could really say “my dog ate my homework”).  I’m also getting some new songs on the iPod and you better believe No Doubt will be on my list.  So, I should be good to go.  I need to just wake up early and feeling fresh.  One step out the door at a time.

For now, I will look at this 0.0 in shame…and know it applies to me until I get my arse out the door!

I don’t know how all of you do it – demanding jobs, demanding children, moving, etc…and still have time to blog or workout or BOTH!

Why New York, Why New York, WHY?

Gonna miss seeing that #17 w/Jeremy Lin’s name on it!

If you’re a New York Knicks fan, you were supposed to sing that title to the tune of “Go New York, Go New York, GO!”  Ahh….I loved hearing that thunder through MSG.

I don’t talk about sports much, but if there’s one sport I watch (almost) faithfully, it’s basketball and if it’s a team I specifically follow, it’s the New York Knicks (I followed the Brooklyn(NJ) Nets for awhile, but lost track).  I’ve been a Knicks fan since high school, from what I can remember.  I will never forget getting so mad at some white bronco chase – aka OJ Simpson – because that hogged up all the networks in the middle of the playoffs!

I don’t know each player’s stats or background or whatever.  I am not a sports analyst and I am a fan, but maybe that doesn’t qualify me as a DIE HARD fan.  But, die hard or not, once again, I DO NOT understand the Knicks’ thought process.  Why didn’t they sign Jeremy Lin?

Jeremy Lin, IMHO, not only brought back the spark to NYK that was starting to fade (Amare and Melo brought it back too, but again, it was starting to fade), he brought the spark back to the organization and the NBA as a whole. Then again, $25 million is a bit steep for a newbie, but I read somewhere he brought in about $600 million in sales (tickets and merch).   Now, I know there’s a LOT more to it than that and there’s something w/luxury tax, but also a “poison pill”/stretch provision and whatever else.  I guess I could see turmoil in the locker room w/a newbie getting that much as opposed to some of the veterans.

He’s young and yes, has a lot to learn and had a lot of turnovers, but so did a lot of all the great point guards when they were starting.  ESPN just said Steve Nash’s record back when he was 23 wasn’t exactly stellar and that Lin’s was actually better.  I’ve read that about other great (more experienced) point guards now…it’s a learning process.   So, instead of the NYK investing in shaping a young player, they bring back an oldie (that they traded before), Felton.  (If I were to bring someone more experienced into the team to replace Jeremy Lin, I’d go for Nash!!!)  Anyway, Felton’s ok, but…I don’t see him bringing in a crowd and enthusiasm and bringing up sales.  Besides, wouldn’t it be easier to mold a young player to be able to play point w/Amare and Melo?  Maybe the NYK believe it’s easier to teach old dog new tricks?  Let me not forget about Jason Kidd…also a veteran, but a great player…but, he also just got arrested for DWI…so, ummm…let’s hope that’s all squared away soon.

Jeremy Lin brought back NBA fever (wait, was there ever one?  I don’t know what it was called).  His sales were through the roof (yes, I have a shirt myself  (see above)and I do wear it around here – Bulls country*).  This guy has fans.  I mean, for playing 25 games, this guy created a fandom.  Hello, LINSANITY!  I remember watching the NY / Toronto game.  NY played in Toronto and  it was packed, but I swear I saw more Lin fans than Raptors fans.  So, he was increasing sales for opposing teams as well.  Again, bringing NBA to the forefront of sports.

Oh why NY, why???  Why do this to your fans?  LINSANITY brought up the season ticket sales too, I think.  How many angry fans are there now that bought these tickets, but won’t even see Jeremy Lin w/his #17 NYK uniform?  Good thing Melo, Amare and Chandler are still there.  I’m glad they signed Novak again…wow, is that guy clutch!

Oh NYK, enlighten us!  I really hope you have something up your sleeve, NY.  I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.  I really hope this veteran team’s experience will let us forget about the LINSANITY that happened this past season.

PS – I just heard that MSG’s stock went down already.  This article from observer.com spells that out w/some graphs too (I love the caption on the graph that says “After Lin Dominated On Kobe’s Face”).

PPS – Please excuse my hair in that pic.  I was heading to the salon for a trim so I just brushed it out w/o styling.

*FYI – Besides the Knicks, we also became fans of the Chicago Bulls and Oklahoma City Thunder…these are our Top 3 NBA teams….NYK = oldest (w/bringing in some veterans for next season) and Thunder = youngest…need that yin and yang!*

Go Big Blue!

Just in case you’ve been stuck under a rock, the NY GIANTS did the unthinkable…They WON SUPERBOWL XLII.

Now, I’m not big into football. Heck, I really just started learning the game a couple of years ago and don’t really watch until towards the end of the season when it’s time for Playoffs. But, when your home team is the big underdog in each and every playoff they are in – especially the Superbowl, you can’t help but watch and route for them. I really just started watching the Giants (as in sitting down and watching the whole game and not just peeking in here and there) the last 3 games they played and all 3, they won 😀 I am proclaiming myself their goodluck charm…teehee…as long as I watch, they win 🙂

When the Giants beat the Packers under subzero temps to win their place in the Superbowl and go against the undefeated Patriots, Giants fans all over were already happy. But, they, both fans and players, wanted more and they got more. The Giants DEFENSE led by Michael Strahan really stepped up – sacked Tom Brady the most he’s ever been sacked all season and Eli Manning and the OFFENSE put numbers up when they really needed them.   Of course, the coaches…especially Coughlin (who almost got fired (?) early in the season).  No one thought they could do it, but Go Big Blue! They blocked out all the negative comments and proved everyone wrong! I seriously had goosebumps all over. I was so happy for them that I was actually jumping up and down and cheering and really getting into it – more than I’ve gotten into any basketball game (which is the only sport I really watch). I even wanted to just eat wings for dinner.

Wow. Just WOW. GO BIG BLUE!!!

I just hope they take this win with class and hope they don’t get all big headed and cocky about it. But, I guess that’s just how I would be. A little cocky is ok, a lot cocky is annoying AND fulfills that NY-ers are arrogant, etc. stereotype.

Oh and, not for nothing…I know the owners pay the bills and all, but I thought it would have been better if they presented the trophy and let Coach Coughlin talk first, no?   I don’t know, maybe that’s just me again and I’m making this “manly ” sport too into etiquette and girlie-ness?  teehee

This now endeth my feeble attempt at sports recapping…hehe
